Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. Israeli strikes hit Lebanon as mediators push Gaza truce

Israeli airstrikes targeted Lebanon and Gaza on Saturday, resulting in significant casualties, as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken returned to Israel in an effort to finalize a Gaza truce agreement. Diplomats believe that reaching such an agreement could prevent a broader regional conflict.

In Lebanon, an Israeli airstrike in the southern region claimed the lives of 10 people, including a Syrian woman and her two children, according to a statement from Lebanon’s health ministry. The ministry described the strike as one of the deadliest in southern Lebanon since the near-daily clashes between Israel and Hezbollah began following the outbreak of the Gaza conflict in October.

Israel’s military confirmed the strike, stating that it targeted a Hezbollah weapons storage facility in southern Lebanon. A spokesperson for the Israeli Defense Forces said, “We carried out an operation against a Hezbollah weapons depot in response to ongoing threats from the group.” The escalating violence has intensified concerns about a potential wider regional escalation.
