Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive. Nationwide protests: Declaration of 24-hours curfew in Katagum to prevent escalation.


The recent nationwide protests have unfortunately led to incidents of vandalism, destruction of public property, and looting. It has been observed that some restive youths in Azare town, Katagum LGA, took advantage of the situation to vandalize a Government’s lodge facility and loot public properties. 


Additionally, in Bauchi metropolitan area, security forces have successfully dispersed individuals causing disturbances in Gombe Gate and Abujan Kwata. So far, three (3) suspects have been arrested and a flag (suspected to be Russian Flag).


These recent events indicate that certain elements are attempting to disrupt public order in the state. To address the security challenges in Azare and its environs, the Bauchi State Government has decided to impose a 24-hour curfew in the affected areas, effective from Monday, 5th August, 2024.


The Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command Cp Auwal Musa Muhammad psc, Anipr, has ordered for strategic deployment of adequate security assets in the affected area to prevent further escalation and to enforce the 24-hour curfew in Katagum LGA area of Bauchi and also call on the general public to cooperate with the security agents in this regard.
