  The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed a viral claim circulating on social media about the introduction of new ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 banknotes, labeling it as fake news. The claim, which included fabricated images of the supposed new denominations featuring Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, falsely stated that the new notes would enter circulation from May 1, 2025. In a statement on its verified Facebook account, the CBN clarified that the content is not from the bank and directed the public to its official website, (www.cbn.gov.ng), for authentic information. The bank warned against spreading misinformation regarding monetary policies and urged Nigerians to rely only on official statements from its verified channels. The CBN reaffirmed that any major policy decision, including the introduction of new banknotes, would be announced through its official platforms. Police Exhume Bodies of Kidnapped Marine Hunters in Akwa Ibom



The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has exhumed the bodies of marine hunters from the Ministry of Internal Security and Inland Waterways who were kidnapped, murdered, and buried by notorious criminals in Unyenghe, Mbo Local Government Area. The command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, disclosed on Friday that the bodies were discovered in shallow graves after the police received information about the crime. “The command’s operatives, upon getting the information, embarked on a hot chase of the suspects and arrested the following suspects: Anthony Archibong, Emmanuel Emmanuel Otoyo, Daniel Edet Okon, Eniete Harry Tom, and Joseph Okon,” John said.


The police also arrested the Village Head of Utit Antai, Chief Okon Asuquo Eteokpo, who was allegedly providing spiritual fortification for the suspects. John added, "Chief Okon Asuquo Eteokpo, said to be their ally and spiritual fortifier, was arrested alongside the suspects, and a total of 15 live cartridges were recovered from them." According to the police statement, the bodies were found after hours of intensive searching by a combined team from the command, with the corpses buried in shallow graves and their heads dismembered.


The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to eradicating crime in the state. The statement urged residents to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police station. “The command has again reassured members of the public of their intentional determination to rid the State of crime and criminal elements," John emphasized.
