 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity. A man claiming to be from South Africa has released a video calling for a ceasefire from Nigerians after an online spat between both countries split into reality.

Recall that last week, South Africans started an economic sabotage of sorts by ordering Uber from Nigeria and sending the drivers to addresses in Nigeria. 

Nigerians living in Nigeria retaliated and brought businesses in South Africa to a halt after ordering for online services in South Africa from the comfort of their homes in Nigeria and giving the addresses of random South African homes as the pick-up location.

In a video going viral on TikTok, a man is seen saying he's speaking on behalf of South Africans. He begged Nigerians to stop the economic sabotage, adding that a lot of businesses have been damaged as a result.
