Southern Kaduna people decry killing, kidnapping, destruction of farm crops by suspected herdsmen

The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has called for urgent intervention over the destruction of farm crops, the killing of several individuals and the kidnapping of eight people in Kauru and Kachia Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.

The forum expressed its concerns over the sad, worrisome, and “devastating” news of the killings and the destruction of farmers’ crops by herdsmen in Kauru Local Government Area.

The forum described the incident that affected several people as heartbreaking and very disturbing, lamenting that it is sad that it impacted struggling individuals who can barely afford to feed themselves.

A statement issued by the forum’s Public Relations Officer, Josiah Yusuf Abraks, explained, “These are predominantly farmers, including women. Among the victims is a woman fending for her partially blind husband, whose farm crops were completely ravaged by the cattle of the rampaging herdsmen.”

The statement further lamented that the culprits have yet to be apprehended.

The forum called on Governor Uba Sani and all security agencies to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators of this evil in Yadi community of Kauru Local Government Area and anywhere else such crimes are committed.

“The government would do well by providing palliatives to the affected people to enable them to pick up the pieces of their livelihood and continue with life,” the statement appealed.

In another development, the statement noted that in Kwassam, Dr. Ishaya was killed and eight other people were kidnapped, also in Kauru LGA.

In yet another development, the statement explained that the District Head of Garu, Alhaji Babangida Adamu Suleiman, was kidnapped in Lere Local Government Area, and Pastor Peter Shabanyan was killed in Katul Crossing community of Kachia Local Government Area.
