 Akwa Ibom Settles N60bn Gratuity Backlog for Retired Teachers The Akwa Ibom State Government has paid over N60 billion to settle accumulated gratuities for retired primary school teachers, the state's Head of Service, Elder Effiong Essien, announced. This payment is part of a larger N90 billion debts inherited by the current administration. Essien praised Governor Umo Eno for prioritizing workers' welfare, noting that the funds were crucial for supporting retired civil servants. The state also plans to start paying gratuities immediately upon retirement once the backlog is cleared. Additionally, recent pension adjustments include increases of N20,000 for retirees from 2000 and N15,000 for those from 2011, with retired permanent secretaries receiving an additional N500,000. The implementation of the N80,000 minimum wage began in February 2025, and a staff verification exercise is underway at Akwa Ibom State University to integrate staff into the state's payroll.

 Woman who tore husband’s passport dares him to open up on cause of their feud


The woman who tore her husband’s international passport at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos has dared him to narrate what led to her action.


The footage, which captured the woman tearing her husband’s Nigerian Standard Passport shortly after they arrived at the Lagos Airport on Saturday, is currently circulating on social media.


When questioned about her actions, she angrily answered, “Is it your passport?”


The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), in a statement on Sunday, said it is already investigating the matter, disclosing that the woman had been invited.

In an interview conducted by @JejojaFamily TV, the woman said the issues with her husband have been going on for years.


She said:  “I suffered with my husband. I know how many years I suffered with him and just like that they want my suffering to be chartered away. Where is it done? I know men will never accept it. But those men who have sisters who have gone through this thing I’m going through now will understand but other men would not.


“So those of you who are saying she should be arrested, come and hold me responsible. I don’t understand, for what reason? I know the pains I’m passing through. I cry every day, after three kids. Then one man would now want to send me back to where I do not know. I want to reap what I have sowed with him, that’s all I have to say. If he knows he has the mind let him come out and say what’s happening.”.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
