 Petrol Landing Cost Drops to N970 per Litre – Marketers In a positive sign for the downstream sector's stability, the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) has announced a slight decrease in the landing cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), or petrol, which fell to N970 per litre in December 2024, down from N971 per litre in November 2024. This decrease comes amid a similar drop in crude oil prices, which fell to $73.77 per barrel from $74 per barrel the previous week. According to MEMAN's daily energy bulletin, which was shared with Vanguard, the new landing cost is based on a crude oil price of $73.91 per barrel (Brent) and an exchange rate of N1,533.57/$. However, MEMAN also cautioned that international petroleum product prices are subject to significant volatility, influenced by geopolitical and economic factors, including developments in the Middle East, market trends in China, and the recent outcome of the U.S. elections.  Abdulrazaq congratulates new Kwara Council chairmen, councillors


Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has congratulated all the newly elected 16 local government chairpersons and 193 councillors following their victories at the Saturday’s election.

The Governor also congratulated all the leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the successful outing at the poll, which he links to the strides of the government, the support of every party member and stakeholders, and sustained relationships that the party has built with the people of the state.

He commended the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission and the security agencies for the peaceful and hugely successful exercise.

According to a statement by His Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Anakaye, the Governor said he was confident that insights and experiences from the exercise will help to improve future elections in the state and across the country, especially that leadership of other states’ electoral commissions observed the exercise across the state.

“Governor Abdulrazaq again commends Kwarans for their large turnouts for the election, their support for the APC, and their decent conducts while it lasted.

“He thanks all the political parties for their impressive participation and sportsmanship,” parts of the statement read.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
