 A priest in Anambra State wedded a couple yesterday, despite disputes with the bride’s father In a video circulating online, the Reverend Father narrated that The father of the bride who is from Nteje had insisted that the wedding should not take place unless his daughter swøre never to associate with his mother whom he has a quarrel with. The conflict arose from past marriage issues between the father and her mother. Before the wedding, the father repeatedly met with the priest, warning that he had already taken the bride's mother to a deity and that the girl must follow him to the shrine to appease that deity before the marriage can go on. For peace to prevail, the priest advised the couple to comply with all the father’s requests so the wedding could proceed, the priest even donated some of the items that the brides father told her to bring to use in appeasing the deity.  Bandits think they are serving God, says Gumi


Ahmad Gumi, an Islamic cleric, says bandits think they are serving by committing crimes.


Gumi said this in a Facebook post on Sunday while reacting to the seizure of Mines Resistant Armour Personnels (MRAPs) by bandits.


The MRAPs are said to have belonged to the military and were seized by bandits led by Bello Turji, a notorious kingpin known for his activities around the axis of Zamfara state.


A viral video of the bandits jubilating after setting MRAPs on fire has since gone viral on the internet.


In the post, Gumi said the bandits were fighting an “ethnic war that could easily be resolved” at the initial stage.


The Islamic cleric said he warned the authorities against intensifying their kinetic approach against them, but they did not listen.


“Initially Bandits were fighting an ethnic war that could easily be resolved,” Gumi said in the post entitled “Radicalisation of Bandits: I warned against the danger”.


“I warned if the kinetic approach is intensified they will turn into ideologically motivated guerilla warfare. Nobody listened.


“The difference between the former and the latter is that ideological war is mostly intractable, BH (Boko Haram) as an example.


“They commit the same crime but this time they think they are serving God. The picture is gloomy.”

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
