 LASG ISSUES TRAFFIC ADVISORY AHEAD OF FANTI CARNIVAL The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions and restrictions ahead of the Lagos Fanti Carnival scheduled to hold on Monday, 6th April, 2026, around Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island. In a bid to ensure a seamless and hitch-free carnival procession, vehicular movement will be restricted along major adjoining roads linking TBS. Affected Routes are; King George V Road (by Mobil Filling Station), Flag House inbound TBS, Force Road inbound TBS, Onikan Roundabout inbound TBS, and WaterBoy Roundabout by Old Defence House. Additionally, all link roads to Moloney Road, such as Military Road (by Old Defence Building), Ajasa Street, Boyle Street, and Hawley Street, will be closed to traffic during the event. To ease parking challenges, designated car parks have been arranged for public use, these include; the Yoruba Lawn Tennis Club Car Park, Zone 2 Car Park (opposite Island Club along King George V Road), Museum Kit...

Correctional officer dies in Bauchi during over food dispute with colleague 


A tragic incident occurred at the Burra Correctional Centre in Bauchi State, Nigeria leading to the death of an officer attached to the centre. 


According to reports, the correctional officer allegedly lost his life following a dispute over food with a colleague. The incident took place in Burra town, Ningi Local Government Area on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, around 2 p.m.


The deceased, Aliyu Abubakar Chiroma from Giade LGA and his colleague, Kabiru Abubakar from Dass LGA of the state, were close friends known to many in the Centre. 


The altercation began when Chiroma brought his lunch, and Kabiru insisted on eating the food against Chiroma’s will, leading to a heated argument.


Tragically, the confrontation escalated into a physical fight, resulting in Chiroma falling to the ground after being headbutted by Kabiru. Despite efforts to save him, Chiroma passed away after being rushed to Burra General Hospital.


The Chairman of Ningi Local government Council, Hon Nasiru Zakari, confirmed the incident on Thursday in an interview with  WikkiTimes  a Bauchi publication.  

 


The Bauchi State Correctional Service Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Usman Tata, also confirmed the incident, highlighting that it occurred outside the Correctional facility. 


He also added the deceased's body has been handed over to his family for burial, while the suspect is in police custody for further investigation.
