Labour Party Appoints Sen. Nenadi Usman As Caretaker Committee Chairperson, Sen. Nwokocha As Secretary

The Labour Party Faction loyal to Governor Alex Otti has appointed Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as the Chairperson of its newly formed Caretaker Committee. The appointment was unveiled during a high-stakes stakeholders meeting held in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, on Wednesday.

Senator Usman, a seasoned politician and former Minister of Finance, brings a wealth of experience to the role. She previously represented the Kaduna South senatorial district from 2011 to 2015 and is now tasked with steering the 29-member committee toward resolving the party’s current leadership challenges.

The committee’s mandate is clear: within 90 days, they are to reorganize the party, restore unity, and lay the groundwork for future electoral successes. A key aspect of their mission will be organizing a convention to elect new leadership across all levels, from the ward to the national stage.

Supporting Senator Usman in this critical endeavor is Senator Darlington Nwokocha, the immediate past Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, who will serve as the committee’s Secretary. Nwokocha, from Abia Central, is expected to play a pivotal role in the committee’s activities.

The meeting saw the attendance of major party figures, including LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his running mate, Datti Ahmed, Senator Victor Umeh, and Lagos State governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
