 NAFDAC Reopens Onitsha Drug Market After Month-Long Closure The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reopened the Onitsha Head Bridge drug market, popularly known as 'Ogbo Ogwu', after a month-long closure for sanitization and regulatory enforcement. The market was shut down as part of NAFDAC's nationwide clampdown on fake and substandard medicines. To prevent a recurrence of the issues that led to the closure, NAFDAC has implemented strict administrative conditions for reopening. Shop owners are required to complete documentation and clearance procedures before their shops can be unsealed. A dedicated NAFDAC desk has been established to facilitate the process efficiently, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.² According to NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, only shops that meet the conditions will be allowed to resume operations.  NBA Offers Free Legal Services To #EndBadGovernance Protesters


The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has offered free legal representation to #EndBadGovernance protesters with court cases across the country.


President of the NBA, Afam Osigwe, who announced this on his X handle on Wednesday, also directed NBA branches to monitor the legal proceedings against protesters across the country.


He said, “I have directed the branches of the Nigerian Bar Association to monitor the trials of the #EndBadGovernance protesters.


“Additionally, I have launched a pro bono support initiative for protesters who lack legal representation.


“The Nigerian Bar Association Citizens’ Liberties Committee (NBA-CLC) has been tasked with liaising closely with the chairmen and human rights committees of NBA branches in regions where protesters are currently being prosecuted. This ensures that no defendant suffers injustice.


“The NBA legal team will continue to monitor court proceedings to ensure that trials are conducted with strict adherence to due process, safeguarding the legal rights of all defendants.


“The Nigerian Bar Association legal teams are in courts and will continue to monitor proceedings to ensure that the rule of law is upheld, the human rights of defendants are protected, and justice is served.”


Nine of the #EndBadGovernance protesters were remanded in Kuje correctional centre after being charged with treason while the court ordered the remand of the only female among them in the Suleja correctional facility.


The protesters, alongside thousands of others, demonstrated against hunger and bad governance from August 1 to 10, 2024.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
