Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  WHY I APPOINTED FIRST FEMALE SSG - GOV. ALIA


The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia says his administration has confidence and trust in Benue’s women ability to deliver on any responsibility given to them.


Governor Alia made this known at the Old Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House Makurdi while swearing in the first female Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah.


The governor appointed Barr. Deborah on the 10th of September, 2024.


According to him, his administration recognizes the important roles women play in society.


He added that the appointment of Barr. Aber, as the first female SSG in the state is a reflection of his government’s determination to elevate merit and diversity in leadership.


“As the first woman ever to be appointed as Secretary to the State Government in Benue State, Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah’s appointment is a testament to the confidence I and indeed this administration have in the abilities of the women of Benue.


“We recognise the important roles women play in our society and this appointment reflects our determination to elevate merit and diversity in leadership,” the governor emphasized.


He expressed confidence in the ability of the new SSG to carry out her assigned duties.


He noted that she will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective coordination of government activities, fostering collaboration across ministries and driving the policies and initiatives that will lead to the sustainable development of the state, assuring her of the full confidence of his administration.


The governor called on public servants, stakeholders and the entire people of Benue to give the new SSG and his administration the needed support to succeed, stating that the work of building the state involves collective efforts, urging all to support and collaborate with his administration in the pursuit of progress and development in the state.


Responding, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah, appreciated God and Governor Hyacinth Alia, for the opportunity given her to serve the State as the first female SSG.


She promised to pilot the affairs of her office with diligence and dedication in line with the administration’s blueprint, setting the foundation for a better and more prosperous Benue.
