 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  WHY I APPOINTED FIRST FEMALE SSG - GOV. ALIA


The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia says his administration has confidence and trust in Benue’s women ability to deliver on any responsibility given to them.


Governor Alia made this known at the Old Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House Makurdi while swearing in the first female Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah.


The governor appointed Barr. Deborah on the 10th of September, 2024.


According to him, his administration recognizes the important roles women play in society.


He added that the appointment of Barr. Aber, as the first female SSG in the state is a reflection of his government’s determination to elevate merit and diversity in leadership.


“As the first woman ever to be appointed as Secretary to the State Government in Benue State, Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah’s appointment is a testament to the confidence I and indeed this administration have in the abilities of the women of Benue.


“We recognise the important roles women play in our society and this appointment reflects our determination to elevate merit and diversity in leadership,” the governor emphasized.


He expressed confidence in the ability of the new SSG to carry out her assigned duties.


He noted that she will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective coordination of government activities, fostering collaboration across ministries and driving the policies and initiatives that will lead to the sustainable development of the state, assuring her of the full confidence of his administration.


The governor called on public servants, stakeholders and the entire people of Benue to give the new SSG and his administration the needed support to succeed, stating that the work of building the state involves collective efforts, urging all to support and collaborate with his administration in the pursuit of progress and development in the state.


Responding, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah, appreciated God and Governor Hyacinth Alia, for the opportunity given her to serve the State as the first female SSG.


She promised to pilot the affairs of her office with diligence and dedication in line with the administration’s blueprint, setting the foundation for a better and more prosperous Benue.
