 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Again, troops arrest 8 Boko Haram terrorists, female kidnappers’ informants in Taraba


Ten suspects, comprising 8 Boko Haram terrorists, and 2 high-profile female kidnappers’ informants, have been arrested by the men of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) in Taraba State.

The feat, according to a press statement issued to journalists in Jalingo in the early hours of Tuesday by the Brigade Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Captain Oni Olubodunde, was made possible by the troops who acted on “reliable intelligence”.

The operation resulted in the arrest of Abdul-Kareem and 7 additional suspects who had traveled from various states to join the terror cell.

It was carried out on 29 September, 2024, when the troops conducted a raid on the residence of one of the terrorists’ leaders, Tukura Abdul-Kareem in Sunkani Ward of Ardo-Kola local government council of the state.

“Investigation revealed that the 8 Boko Haram Terrorists were planning to establish a sleeper cell within Taraba State, with the intention of launching Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks on innocent individuals and critical facilities within the state,” he said.

Abdul -Kareem was also said to have confessed to have joined Boko Haram with his brother, Adamu Abdul -Kareem for a long period of time.

Items recovered from the suspects included nine mobile phones, Identity Cards, wraps of controlled items suspected to be Marijuana and other hard drugs.

In a separate operation, troops of 6 Brigade deployed at Chachanji village in Takum local government council of the state also confirmed to have arrested 2 female informants linked to high-profile kidnapping syndicates.

“These individuals are known to have provided vital information to kidnappers and a wanted notorious criminal known as Anyogo and his gang on the activities of troops within the area and also responsible for identifying businessmen with money to be robbed or kidnapped for ransom,” he added.

 He identified the suspects as Patience Avadoo Tersoo and Joy Nguemu Emmanuel, who the army believed to be Anyogo’s wife and sister, respectively.

Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/ Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested 10 suspects, comprising eight Boko Haram terrorists  and two high-profile female kidnapper’s informants, in Taraba.

This is contained in a statement by Capt. Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the bridge and made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Jalingo.

“Acting swiftly on reliable intelligence, troops of the brigade on September 29, 2024 conducted a raid on the residence of one of the terrorists leaders Tukura Abdul-Kareem in Sunkani Ward of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area.

“This operation resulted in the arrest of Abdul-Kareem and seven additional suspects,who had traveled from various states to join the terror cell.

“Investigation revealed that the eight Boko Haram terrorists were planning to establish a camp within Taraba, with the intention of launching Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks on innocent individuals and critical facilities.

“Abdul -Kareem also confessed to have joined the BHT with his brother Adamu Abdul -Kareem, who is still in the bush with other terrorists at an unknown area.

” Items recovered from the suspects include nine mobile phones, Identity Cards, wraps of controlled items suspected to be Marijuana and other hard drugs, it stated.

The statement said that in a separate operation, on September 30, 2024, troops of 6 Brigade deployed at Chachanji village in Takum LGA arrested two informants linked to high-profile kidnapping syndicates.

“These individuals are known to have provided vital information to kidnappers, who have been aiding a wanted notorious criminal known as Anyogo and his gang with information on the activities of troops within the area.

“The two are responsible for identifying businessmen with money to be robbed or kidnapped for ransom.

“The two suspects namely Patience Tersoo and Joy Emmanuel are believed to be Anyogo’s Wife and sister respectively.

“Items recovered from the suspects include one Mobile phone, one Super Core Motorcycle and a calabash, it stated.
