 Anambra Government Reaffirms Mega City Drive, Demolishes Scores of Illegal Structures By Ruth Orji  The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing regeneration drive and restoration of sanity across the state through enforcement exercises and demolition of illegal structures statewide. The exercise was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, on July 8, in line with the Physical Planning Law of Anambra State. Stating that it is no longer business as usual, the commissioner urged residents to take every notice received from the ministry seriously and comply promptly with planning regulations henceforth. He, however, said several eviction notices had been served but were taken with a pinch of salt, adding that demolitions followed because structures defaced the environment or obstructed pedestrian walkways. APPEAL COURT NULLIFIES RIVERS BUDGET PASSED BY PRO- FUBARA LAWMAKERS. (PHOTO).

 Appeal Court nullifies Rivers budget passed by pro-Fubara lawmakers


The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, October 10, 2024, affirmed the judgement of the Federal High Court which set aside the N800 billion budget passed by five members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.


The lawmakers led by the Edison Ehie-led group are loyalists of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.


The Appeal Court dismissed the appeal filed by Fubara for lacking merit.


The court declared that the governor withdrew his counter-affidavit at the lower court in the matter and as such cannot commence an appeal in a matter he didn’t challenge at the trial stage.


The also affirmed Martins Amaewhule speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, slams 500k against appellant


"This Appeal is bereft of merit and hereby dismissed, the Judgment of the lower court is hereby affirmed. Cost of 500k awarded against the Appellant.


"All expenditure done by Rivers State Governor without the Appropriation of Rt.Hon.Martins is illegal to the extent of its expenditures


"The Appellant Governor of Rivers State treated Court Order with disdain


“You cannot by way of Appeal seek to revive what has been decided,” the court ruled.
