 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Appeal Court nullifies Rivers budget passed by pro-Fubara lawmakers


The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, October 10, 2024, affirmed the judgement of the Federal High Court which set aside the N800 billion budget passed by five members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.


The lawmakers led by the Edison Ehie-led group are loyalists of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.


The Appeal Court dismissed the appeal filed by Fubara for lacking merit.


The court declared that the governor withdrew his counter-affidavit at the lower court in the matter and as such cannot commence an appeal in a matter he didn’t challenge at the trial stage.


The also affirmed Martins Amaewhule speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, slams 500k against appellant


"This Appeal is bereft of merit and hereby dismissed, the Judgment of the lower court is hereby affirmed. Cost of 500k awarded against the Appellant.


"All expenditure done by Rivers State Governor without the Appropriation of Rt.Hon.Martins is illegal to the extent of its expenditures


"The Appellant Governor of Rivers State treated Court Order with disdain


“You cannot by way of Appeal seek to revive what has been decided,” the court ruled.
