Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing.  Appeal Court nullifies Rivers budget passed by pro-Fubara lawmakers


The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, October 10, 2024, affirmed the judgement of the Federal High Court which set aside the N800 billion budget passed by five members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.


The lawmakers led by the Edison Ehie-led group are loyalists of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.


The Appeal Court dismissed the appeal filed by Fubara for lacking merit.


The court declared that the governor withdrew his counter-affidavit at the lower court in the matter and as such cannot commence an appeal in a matter he didn’t challenge at the trial stage.


The also affirmed Martins Amaewhule speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, slams 500k against appellant


"This Appeal is bereft of merit and hereby dismissed, the Judgment of the lower court is hereby affirmed. Cost of 500k awarded against the Appellant.


"All expenditure done by Rivers State Governor without the Appropriation of Rt.Hon.Martins is illegal to the extent of its expenditures


"The Appellant Governor of Rivers State treated Court Order with disdain


“You cannot by way of Appeal seek to revive what has been decided,” the court ruled.
