Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  Ex-Minister Tallen’s only son dies in Abuja


Richard, the only son of the immediate past Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, is dead.


Richard died on Sunday morning at the Cedar Crest Hospital in Abuja, after being hospitalised, the family said in a statement on Sunday.


The cause of his death was not immediately known but he was said to have been placed on oxygen in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Friday night.


Also confirming the incident, his alma mater, the Vom Old Boys’ Association (VOBA, wrote on its social media platform that he died in Abuja after a brief illness.

 

“On a very sad note, we regret to announce the sudden passing of our member, Mr Richard Adamu Tallen.


“Eternal rest grant unto him oh Lord, may perpetual light shine upon him.


“May the soul of Richard and all departed VOBA members RIP. Amen,” the group posted on Facebook on Sunday afternoon.


The late Richard, who is a graduate of Computer Science from a United States university, was aged 42 and is survived by a wife and three children.


The burial arrangements will be announced by the family.
