The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.  Kaduna PDP Dismisses Election Boycott Claims, Urges Members To Vote

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Kaduna State has strongly refuted rumours asking party faithful to boycott today’s council elections in the 23 local government areas of the state.

The state chairman of the party, Edward Masha, said this in an interview with newsmen in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, noting that the call for a boycott was neither made nor endorsed by his office.

He said, “while PDP agents at the SIECOM office in Kaduna were inspecting sensitive materials before distribution, it was noticed that one of the most sensitive materials, the result sheets, was not included, which was an anomaly.”

He further disclosed that two weeks ago, he had raised the alarm over plans by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to manipulate the elections by sneaking in a clause into the SIECOM election guidelines that would alter the process of announcing election results.

Masha insisted that the PDP would insist until all sensitive materials are included to ensure a level playing ground.

The PDP state chairman said the display of electoral fraud by the ruling party indicated that democracy is under attack in the state.

Masha then called on all members of the PDP to come out en masse to exercise their franchise and avoid any acts that could breach the peace in all the local government areas in the state.
