Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing.  Kaduna PDP Dismisses Election Boycott Claims, Urges Members To Vote


The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Kaduna State has strongly refuted rumours asking party faithful to boycott today’s council elections in the 23 local government areas of the state.


The state chairman of the party, Edward Masha, said this in an interview with newsmen in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, noting that the call for a boycott was neither made nor endorsed by his office.


He said, “while PDP agents at the SIECOM office in Kaduna were inspecting sensitive materials before distribution, it was noticed that one of the most sensitive materials, the result sheets, was not included, which was an anomaly.”


He further disclosed that two weeks ago, he had raised the alarm over plans by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to manipulate the elections by sneaking in a clause into the SIECOM election guidelines that would alter the process of announcing election results.


Masha insisted that the PDP would insist until all sensitive materials are included to ensure a level playing ground.


The PDP state chairman said the display of electoral fraud by the ruling party indicated that democracy is under attack in the state.


Masha then called on all members of the PDP to come out en masse to exercise their franchise and avoid any acts that could breach the peace in all the local government areas in the state.
