Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. LIONEL MESSI HAS ANNOUNCED THAT HE WILL DONATE HIS RECORD-BREAKING EIGHT BALLON D'OR TO THE BARCELONA MUSEUM. (PHOTO).

Lionel Messi has announced that he will donate his record-breaking eighth Ballon d’Or to the Barcelona museum, further solidifying his legacy at the club where he spent much of his career.

The 37-year-old forward claimed the prestigious award after beating rivals Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. This latest Ballon d’Or win comes after Messi’s remarkable performance in Argentina’s World Cup victory and his contributions to Paris Saint-Germain during the 2022-2023 season, where he scored 21 goals and provided 20 assists. The Barcelona museum, which already showcases many of Messi’s achievements, is expected to see even more visitors with the addition of this historic trophy.

Messi received the Ballon d’Or at a glamorous ceremony in Paris, where he thanked his national teammates for their support in helping him achieve this milestone. In his acceptance speech, he expressed his gratitude for the collective success they had shared. “Thank you very much, to share this with my national teammates for what we were able to achieve with the national team. The entire group, the coaching staff, everyone involved. I’m delighted to be here once more to be able to enjoy this moment one more time,” Messi said. His words reflected his team-first mentality, despite the individual recognition.

Journalist Miquel Blazquez broke the news of Messi’s donation to the Barcelona museum, noting that this gesture will strengthen the bond between Messi and the club’s passionate supporters. The addition of his latest Ballon d’Or is expected to further highlight Messi’s immense impact on the club and its history.

When asked if he dreams of winning a ninth Ballon d’Or, Messi responded with humility, indicating that further individual awards are no longer a priority for him. He said, “I stopped thinking about the Ballon d’Or a while ago, and winning it was never a priority for me, especially now that I have achieved everything in my career. I think it’s the last Ballon d’Or, and I’m happy to have achieved everything and be the player with eight Ballon d’Ors.” Messi’s focus now seems to be on enjoying the final stages of his career, with a deep sense of satisfaction in all he has accomplished.
