 ZIMBABWEAN COUPLE DEPORTED OVER SECRET BURIAL OF CHILD IN BOTSWANA A Zimbabwean couple has been deported from Botswana after secretly burying their child without notifying authorities. Motilinah Mpofu and Christopher Ncube were convicted on Thursday of concealing a death after they allegedly dug a grave for their child in the dead of night. The Gaborone court heard the child had died suddenly. Instead of reporting the death to police, health officials, or traditional leaders, the couple quietly buried the youngster and hoped no one would find out. But the secret did not stay buried for long.   Police moved in and arrested the pair. The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected member of an armed robbery syndicate terrorising the Olomore area of Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the state.


The command said it arrested the suspected member of the syndicate, Jonah Onah, at their hideout in the Olomore area.


The command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a telephone conversation with with newsmen on Thursday.


She said the suspect was arrested following credible intelligence that led to a raid of a criminal hideout in the area.


She said, “The Divisional Police Officer of the Lafenwa Division successfully apprehended a notorious criminal, Jonah Onah, on October 23, 2024, at 9:50 PM during a raid operation based on reliable intelligence.


“Onah was apprehended at Olomore, an area known for criminal activities. He is believed to be part of a criminal group specialising in offences such as theft and pickpocketing.”


She added that during the arrest, exhibits such as a decoy gun and a jackknife were recovered from the suspect.


The PPRO added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the robbery syndicate.

She noted that a manhunt for other members of the syndicate has commenced.


“Discreet investigations aim to apprehend other members of this syndicate has commenced,” Odutola concluded.


It was reported on October 18 that the command arrested 27-year-old Imole Ajayi who was accused of armed robbery from Area 5, Iperin OPIC Estate in the Agbara area of the state.


The police patrol team reportedly picked up the suspect around 8:30 pm last Thursday during a stop-and-search duty on Orita/Idi-Oke Road, Igbesa in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.


Ajayi was said to be a member of a one-chance armed robbery gang using a motorcycle to scout for stranded motorists who may be in distress on the road.


Odutola had said that upon searching Ajayi’s bag, a single-barrel shotgun with three live cartridges was found on him but he could not provide a reasonable explanation for having the firearm.
