 Military judge suppresses Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s FBI confession in 9/11 case A military judge has excluded a confession that alleged Sept. 11 attacks mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed gave to FBI agents nearly 20 years ago, ruling that the statements were not made voluntarily. The decision is a setback for the U.S. government's long-running effort to prosecute Mohammed, who is accused of helping develop the plot to hijack planes and crash them into the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Mohammed remains detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, alongside other defendants awaiting trial. Lt. Col. Michael Schrama, the judge overseeing the case, scheduled a June 2028 trial for Mohammed and three other defendants earlier this week. In an order issued Friday that has not been made public, Schrama barred prosecutors from using statements Mohammed made during four days of FBI questioning at Guantanamo in January 2007.  Senators pass vote of confidence in Akpabio


Twenty-four hours after refuting reports of an alleged impeachment plot, the Senate, on Thursday, passed a vote of confidence in the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and the entire leadership of the Red Chamber.


Reports of a purported impeachment plot by unnamed northern senators surfaced on social media on Wednesday morning, but both the Senate and Akpabio swiftly dismissed it as fake news.


During Thursday’s plenary, Yahaya Abdullahi (PDP, Kebbi North) rose under orders 10 and 42 of the Senate standing rules to address the issue again.


Abdullahi stressed the importance of dispelling the false narrative and clearing the names of northern senators accused of plotting Akpabio’s impeachment.


The publication is undermining the context of our democracy and is undermining the capacity of this institution to deliver in the presence of governors of this country,” Abdullahi stated.


He further called for unity, saying, “We must rise and get united under the leadership to ensure that this kind of discourse is completely negated and for the kind of unity we have forged in the last 18 months to be sustained and fully accomplished.”


Abdullahi rejected the notion that northern senators were involved in any such plot, adding, “For us to be characterised as promoting or supporting anybody to bring the leadership of this institution down is bad and should be disregarded.”
