 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Tiktoker Salo Hospitalised After Being Robbed, Shot in Lagos


TikTok sensation, Odesanmi Opeyemi, popularly known as Oloba Salo, has been hospitalized after being shot in Lekki, Lagos by an unknown gunman.


In the late hours of Thursday, the content creator was reportedly shot in the leg and quickly rushed to the hospital. It was gathered that his gold chain was stolen in the process.


This happened when Salo, known for his outspoken personality, was ambushed by some unknown gunmen while driving his white luxury car in Lekki, Lagos State.


An eyewitness, whose voice was heard in a leaked WhatsApp conversation, revealed that the assassins were seen riding a motorcycle when they shot the comedian before speeding away.


It was also mentioned that the gold chain was stolen by bystanders who had initially gathered around Salo, seemingly to assist him.


A video, captured by one of Salo’s friends, showed him in a hospital bed as doctors surrounded him, trying to save his life. His friend was seen running helter-skelter to make sure Salo gets back on his feet hale and hearty.


Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and thanked the hospital for prompt treatment of the victim.


He wrote, “Special appreciation/commendation to Evercare Hospital, Lekki for promptly accepting/commencing medical treatment of gunshot victim, Ojesanmi Afeez aka Oloba Salo, and equally promptly notifying the Police.


“This is the way to go in line with the Compulsory Treatment and Care of Victims of Gunshots Act.”
