 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Tinubu appoints four ministers from Ogun


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Jumoke Oduwole to head the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, marking her the fourth minister from Ogun State in his cabinet.


Daily Trust reports that it is uncommon to have more than two ministers from one state in the federal cabinet.


During the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Tinubu announced the appointment of seven new ministers.


The new ministers include Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, widow of the late Ikemba of Nnewi, as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; and Jumoke Oduwole, ex-Executive Secretary to the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment.


Others are Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment; Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Ministry of Livestock Development; Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Dr Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State Education.


Sunday Dare, a former Minister of Sports, has been appointed Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation.


The president also relieved five ministers from their positions.


With Oduwole’s appointment, Ogun State now boasts four ministers in the federal cabinet: Adekunle Salako (Minister of State for Environment); Bosun Tijani (Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy); and Wale Edun (Minister of Finance).
