 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. A GIRL WAS ALLEGEDLY SUBJECTED TO REPEATED SEXUAL ASSAULT OVER SEVERAL MONTHS BY A 46-YEAR-OLD NEIGHBOR IN THE PANDU AREA OF GUWAHATI. (PHOTO).


 In a deeply troubling incident, a minor girl was allegedly subjected to repeated s€xual @ss@ult over several months by a 46-year-old neighbor in the Pandu area of Guwahati. The accused, who had been known to the victim’s family, was taken into custody by local police on Wednesday.


According to Officer-in-Charge Ritujyoti Nath of the Jalukbari police station, the girl revealed the horrific details of her ordeal to her mother after yet another incident on Tuesday. Following her disclosure, immediate action was taken by authorities. 


The police confirmed that a medical examination of the victim was conducted on Tuesday night, and while a detailed report is still pending, it will serve as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation. “We have successfully apprehended the suspect at the scene. A case has been registered under various sections of the Protection of Children from S€xual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant laws,” Nath stated.


The community is in shock over the incident and attacked the accused. Local authorities are now focusing on supporting the victim and ensuring that justice is served in this gravely concerning case.
