 APC will claim Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, A’Ibom – Akpabio Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has disclosed why he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Akpabio said he defected to APC to ensure that the ruling party claims all the states in the South South ahead of the 2027 elections. The Senate President spoke while receiving Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State at his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital. In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, Akpabio said winning the states would change the developmental trajectory of the South South region for good.  Akwa Ibom declares Friday work-free day to honour late First Lady


The Akwa Ibom State Government has declared Friday, November 29, 2024, a work-free day in honour of the late First Lady, Patience Eno.


A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah, in Uyo, the state capital, on Wednesday, noted that the decision is to enable Akwa Ibomites and other well-wishers to pay their last respects to the departed First Lady.


“Further to the final home-going programme of our departed First Lady, Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Government, in consultation with the bereaved family, has declared Friday, November 29, 2024, a work-free day in honour of our dear mother,” the statement read.


“This is to enable Akwa-Ibomites to pay their last respect to our mother at her obsequies in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsik Ubuim Local Government Area of the state on that day.


“May the gentle soul of our departed First Lady find repose in the bosom of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.”

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
