 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Anambra State Accounting Staff Association Celebrates International Accountants Day

As November 10 draws closer for the celebration of the International Accountants Day, professionals in the field in Anambra State has started marking the event.


The Association has also earmarked a thanksgiving mass to hold on Sunday, November 10 at St. Anthony's Parish Church, Ifite Awka by 10am.


The celebration kicked off on Wednesday November 6 at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat with a workshop tagged "Methods of Coding/Codification of MDAs in line with IPSAS and National Chart of Accounts (NCoA)".


The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr. Achor Joachin Chinedum who is also the Chairman, Anambra State Accounting Staff Association (ASASA) spoke on the topic, 'Coding', saying that the subject is the process of assigning numerical codes to represent data, ideas or instructions in a format that can be easily understood and processed by computers or humans.


He highlighted the importance of International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS), explaining that it is a body responsible for the setting up of the standards of operation for public sector entities.


He said, "Chart of Accounts is a systematic listing of accounts used to classify and record financial transactions. 


"The Nigeria Government adopted the Public Sector Accounting Standard set up by IPSAS and therefore developed a common Chart of Accounts for all Nigeria tiers of government, federal, state and local government areas 


"Codes are designed to properly define the components and in coding these accounts, it enables for efficient financial management and report".


Climax of the occasion was the election of new executive members of the Anambra State Accounting Staff Association and the handing over ceremony to the winners.
