MALI RENAMES COLONIAL FRENCH STREET NAMES. (PHOTO).

 Mali renames colonial French street names Mali followed Burkina Faso and Niger on Wednesday in renaming streets and squares in its capital to get rid of their French colonial names, AFP reported. Streets bearing the names of members of France's colonial administration have been rebaptised in Bamako, according to a decree by the junta chief. Cedeao Avenue (the French acronym for the Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS) is also now named after a new strategic confederation that Mali has formed with Burkina Faso and Niger – the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). In all, nearly 25 names have been replaced, among them boulevards, streets, squares and public establishments. Niger and Burkina Faso have already made several changes to street and monument names in the last two years. In October, Niger renamed several historic sites in its capital Niamey which previously bore references to old colonial master France.  BADAGRY INTERNATIONAL FILMS FESTIVAL: LASG CALLS FOR COLLABORATION 


                                                                   The Lagos State Government has called on all people with shared language, togetherness and love in the world to embrace collaboration to enhance their creativity and cultural heritage at the ongoing second edition of Badagry International Films, Culture and Sports Festival.


Speaking at the event which commenced on Wednesday at the Badagry Theatre Hall in Badagry, the representative of the State Government and the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Video and Censors Board, Mrs. Adebukola Agbaminoja Mrs. Agbaminoja stressed the unifying power of films, adding that people all over the world need to ignore artificial boundaries and welcome themselves with the spirit of brotherhood, camaraderie, inspiration and innovation that spurs exciting moments together. 


While welcoming and appreciating all dignitaries and participants at the event, especially the delegation from Porto-Novo in the Republic of Benin led by the First Deputy Mayor, Toukourou Rachadou, she said it is to inform our guests, especially those from the neighbouring country that Nigeria and Lagos State is open for collaboration and enhancing the cultural heritage between our Nations.


She commended the Initiator of the Badagry International Film Festival, Mr. Viyon Awhanse, for his doggedness in maintaining and promoting the festival, including the team and members of the Lagos State Sports Commission for their support. 


The event witnessed cultural entertainment from different troupes in the Badagry axis and Ghana.
