 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. KATSINA POLICE COMMAND FOILED ATTACKS, RESCUED TWENTY-ONE (21) VICTIMS IN JIBIA TOWNSHIP, REASSURES COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC SAFETY AND SECURITY.

 

In a swift and coordinated response, the Katsina State Police Command, in collaboration

with the Nigerian Military, members of the state community watch corps, and vigilantes, successfully foiled simultaneous attacks on three quarters in Jibia Township, Katsina State, on November 7th, 2024.

 

At about 2115 hrs (9:15 pm), suspected armed bandits launched coordinated

attacks on Ka'ida, Unguwar One Boy, and Danmarke quarters, all in Jibia Township, Jibia LGA, Katsina State. The swift response of the joint security team led by the DPO Jibia repelled the attackers, resulting in a fierce gun duel that lasted for over an hour.

firepower and tactical advantage of the joint security team eventually forced the bandits to retreat with unspecified casualties as the operation resulted in the successful rescue of sixteen (16) victims trapped by the bandits.

 

Regrettably, five (5) persons sustained gunshot

injuries as a result of the bandits' attack. The injured victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

 

Sadly, one member of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps and a Vigilante member lost their lives during the encounter, paying the ultimate

price. Further development will be communicated in due course, please.

 

The command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, while working closely with all relevant stakeholders, is intensifying efforts to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators of this dastardly act.
