 CWCL: ‘Bring The Trophy Home,’ Okpebholo Rallies Support For Edo Queens The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Friday urged the Edo Queens FC of Benin, representing Nigeria in the ongoing 2024 CAF Women Champions League in Casablanca, Morocco to beat their South Africa counterpart, Mamelodi Sundown and return home with the cup. Okpebholo’s directive was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua in Benin City. He commended the team for their achievements so far, charging them to beat the South Africans to enable them to lead Group B into the semifinals. “Go ahead to also win the cup and bring it to your fatherland. Sports will surely be given the top priority it deserves in my Government,” he said. “I think the girls might be worried about the change of leadership in the Edo State, but I want them to know that we are with them.  Man in Police Net For Stabbing Brother's Wife

One Nnamdi Nnebe from Umuokpu Awka is currently in police custody for stabbing his elder brother's wife.


In what started as a minor misunderstanding, Mrs Njideka Nnebe, the survivor of the knife attack stated that the culprit who parked his keke in their compound saw kids playing inside his tricycle but mistook one of the kids as her son.


The survivor explained that after a minor exchange of words, the assailant went inside his apartment and brought a knife but because she defended with her hand, she got stabbed on her hand instead. 


Reacting to the incident at the hospital during her visit to the survivor, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Anambra State, Mrs Ify Obinabo assured that the ministry will follow-up on the case as the state government is now in-charge to give justice to the survivor.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
