 Former Bank of China chairman sentenced to death on corruption charges Liu Liange, former Party chief and chairman of Bank of China, was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve in a first-instance trial on Tuesday for accepting large sums in bribes. The sentence was delivered by the Jinan Intermediate People's Court in East China's Shandong Province, according to China Central Television (CCTV). During his tenure from 2010 to 2023, Liu took bribes of 121 million yuan ($16.7 million) to assist with loans, projects, and personnel arrangements. He approved illegal loans amounting to 3.32 billion yuan from 2017 to 2020, causing losses of over 190.7 million yuan. Liu was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, stripped of his political rights for life and had all personal assets seized. May Edochie bags Brand Ambassador of the year award

May Edochie, the estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, has been left overwhelmed and honored as she bags another award.


The mother of four was honored with the Brand Ambassador of the Year award at the just concluded Nigerian Social Media Awards. Though the fast-rising ambassador and influencer weren’t available to receive the award, her daughter, Danielle, had stood in the gap for her.


Taking to her Instagram page, May expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her family members and online family for their encouragement and unwavering support which made it happen. She also gave thanks to all the brands working with her for allowing her to represent their organizations. She noted how without them, the achievement wouldn’t be possible.


May Edochie stated that the award means more to her than just a recognition of my efforts, as it is a testament to the power of collaboration, perseverance, and passion.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
