 The credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ register has come under intense scrutiny ahead of the 2027 general elections, following revelations by INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan that names of deceased persons remain on the register. Amupitan disclosed that names of voters who died as far back as 15 years ago are still listed, a situation critics say could undermine the integrity of the 2027 polls and lead to significant financial waste through the printing of excess ballot papers and other election logistics. The INEC chairman made the revelation while receiving the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Wednesday.  Okpebholo Appoints Gani Audu as Chief of Staff


Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Gani Audu as his new Chief of Staff. 


The announcement was made through a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, on Friday. The Governor expressed confidence that Audu’s appointment would contribute significantly to driving meaningful reforms in the state.


The statement read, "It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly the good people of Edo State, that Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved the appointment of Gani Audu as his Chief of Staff. The appointment takes immediate effect."


About Gani Audu:


Born on August 18, 1969, Gani Audu holds an HND from Auchi Polytechnic (1994), a PGD in Business Administration from Benson Idahosa University (2011), and an M.Sc. in Intelligence and Global Security from Baze University, Abuja (2024).


Audu has held several key positions, including serving as the Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Council from 2004 to 2010, and as a member of the Edo State House of Assembly for Etsako West Constituency 1 from 2015 to 2023. He was also the deputy governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress in the 2020 Edo State Governorship election.
