 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms.  POLICE SERGEANT ARRESTED AFTER MURDER OF WIFE AND DOMESTIC WORKER


A 44-year-old Police Sargeant has been arrested following the alleged shooting of his wife and domestic worker at their homestead in Masisi, Vhembe district, on the evening of 29 October 2024. The Sergeant has been on the run since then, until his subsequent arrest following a shootout with police on Thursday night, 31 October 2024.

The suspect was located in the Makuya policing area after a well co-ordinated operation by Vhembe SAPS District Task team members. He was spotted driving at high speed along Tshitavha road next to Sambandou bridge.


When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect started firing multiple shots at them, prompting the police to respond swiftly. The suspect was wounded in the exchange, and one police officer sustained minor injuries. The Police recovered a service pistol and ammunition.


Both the suspect and the injured officer were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.


The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified for further handling of the case following the shooting ordeal.


The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the rapid response of members in Vhembe district.


“We wish the injured member a speedy recovery and assure the public that the suspect will face the full consequences of his actions, particularly for his refusal to surrender and the violence he displayed towards our officers. A special appreciation goes to our members for ensuring that the suspect is apprehended swiftly. This case will be monitored closely to ensure justice is served,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.


The suspect is expected to appear before the Masisi Magistrate’s Court soon, facing two counts of murder and attempted murder.
