Shehu Sani Urges Saudi Arabia to Build Second National Grid for Nigeria, Focus on Economic Reforms Later

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged Saudi Arabia to prioritize the construction of a second national grid for Nigeria, rather than focusing on economic reforms. His statement came in response to reports that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Al Saud had pledged support for Nigeria's economic reform efforts during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh.

According to Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the two leaders discussed various areas of cooperation, including oil and gas, agriculture, infrastructure, and the establishment of a Saudi-Nigeria Business Council. Nigeria also seeks a $5 billion bilateral trade agreement with Saudi Arabia.

Reacting to the development on X, Sani quipped, "Oil-rich Saudi promised to support Nigeria’s economic reforms. They should just build a second national grid for us and leave the issue of the reforms for now."
