THRIVING BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT DEPENDS ON STRONG INFRASTRUCTURE - SANWO-OLU
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has stated that his administration has made significant progress in road construction, public transport, and digital connectivity because it understands that a thriving business environment depends on strong infrastructure.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this at the Lagos State Day/Closing Ceremony of the Lagos International Trade Fair, organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos on Sunday.
According to him, the intermodal transport system has transformed urban mobility, connecting rail, road, and waterways to streamline movement and enhance business efficiency.
His words: “The Blue and Red Rail Lines stand out among these projects, redefining public transportation in Lagos. Before the end of the year, we will also be commencing work on another line to further integrate and connect different parts of the State.
“Our extensive Fiber Optic Network project is to ensure seamless digital connectivity across the State, enabling smoother business operations and reducing costs. Lagos is a city where innovation and resilience meet, and we are committed to building a digital-first economy. By advancing partnerships with tech hubs, offering incentives for digital startups, and fostering a tech-driven environment, we are positioning Lagos as a preferred destination for innovative solutions.”
Sanwo-Olu affirmed that the theme, “Connecting Businesses, Creating Value,” aligns perfectly with Lagos State’s vision to foster partnerships, drive innovation, and build an environment where businesses of all sizes can thrive.
“Sustainability remains central to our growth strategy, and we are taking decisive steps toward becoming a cleaner, greener Lagos. Through initiatives that prioritise renewable energy, waste management, and eco-friendly policies, we are creating a sustainable city that balances economic opportunities with environmental stewardship, benefiting current and future generations. We are working to ensure that Lagos becomes more resilient to challenges of climate change and other shocks,” he said.
Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem noted that in today’s fast-paced, ever-evolving global economy, fostering connections is no longer an option but a necessity for our businesses, particularly the MSMEs to grow and thrive.
“Recognising their significant roles, we have been working to strengthen their operations, expand our financial inclusion initiatives - through grants and low-interest loans, to accommodate and support budding entrepreneurs and established small businesses alike. In collaboration with our partnering institutions, we continue to equip our MSMEs with the resources they need to innovate and scale their operations.
President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gabriel Idahosa, FCA, commended the State Government for its support of the chamber and particularly Governor Sanwo-Olu for his consistency in ensuring that the chamber continues to be at the forefront of business promotion in Africa.
