 Republic of Congo holds presidential election, internet disruption reported Internet connectivity across the Republic of Congo was disrupted on Sunday as voters cast ballots in a presidential election, global internet watchdog NetBlocks said. Network data indicated a nation-scale disruption to internet access, the watchdog said on X. A similar near-total nationwide internet blackout was recorded during the country’s March 2021 presidential election, lasting about three days, according to NetBlocks. Polls opened at 6 am (0500GMT) in the country’s presidential election and will remain open until 6 pm (1700GMT). More than 2.6 million registered voters aged 18 and above are eligible to cast their ballots.  Abia Assembly lawmaker says Speaker not facing impeachment


The member representing Isuikwuato Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Lucky Johnson, has dismissed rumours that Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly Emmanuel Emeruwa is to be impeached.


Johnson, who reacted to some social media reports about the fate of the Speaker, described the claims as unfounded lies aimed at misleading the public.


Speaking to newsmen in Umuahia on Wednesday, Johnson, who is a member of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, maintained that the claims that Emeruwa faced a potential impeachment following a purported face-off with Governor Alex Otti were baseless.


“Let it be categorically stated that there is no plan to impeach the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa,” Johnson declared.


The lawmaker further urged Abians to disregard the misinformation and focus on issues that promote unity and development in the state, even as he said that a harmonious relationship exists between the Speaker and other members.
