 Atiku pledges scholarship to viral Niger teen miner Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday said his “heart breaks” each time he watches a viral video of a teenage artisanal miner, Yusuf Aliyu, speaking at a mining site in Niger State after the deaths of 37 miners in the state. Atiku, in a statement posted on his X handle, said he was prepared to support the boy’s education, describing him as a child whose intelligence and confidence should be nurtured in a classroom rather than by working at a mining site. “I have watched Yusuf Aliyu’s video repeatedly, and each time, my heart breaks. A child with such intelligence, clarity and confidence should be in a classroom building his future—not struggling for survival in a community surrounded by gold but buried in poverty. “I cannot look at him and see an ‘illegal miner.’ I see a Nigerian child failed by the country that should have protected him. ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARROWHEAD BEHIND THUGGERY ESCALATION IN KOFAR MATA QUARTERS KANO


On December 24, 2024, at approximately 8:40 pm, a team of Policemen deployed at Kofar Mata/Zango junction near Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital Kano, arrested one Kabiru Jamilu, 21 years old, popularly known as 'Awu', a resident of Zango Quarters Kano. The suspect was identified as the mastermind behind the resurgence of Daba fighting between Kofar Mata and Zango youths.


Key Findings:


- Kabiru Jamilu confessed to spearheading the fighting during preliminary investigations.

- Further investigations led to the arrest of Umar Garba, 32, a resident of Zango Quarters Kano, who was found in possession of a sharp long knife.

- Both suspects have been transferred to the Command's Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.


Call to Action:


The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Salman Dogo Garba, urges residents of Kofar Mata and Zango Quarters to cooperate with the Police by providing information to completely address the situation.
