 Mali renames colonial French street names Mali followed Burkina Faso and Niger on Wednesday in renaming streets and squares in its capital to get rid of their French colonial names, AFP reported. Streets bearing the names of members of France's colonial administration have been rebaptised in Bamako, according to a decree by the junta chief. Cedeao Avenue (the French acronym for the Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS) is also now named after a new strategic confederation that Mali has formed with Burkina Faso and Niger – the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). In all, nearly 25 names have been replaced, among them boulevards, streets, squares and public establishments. Niger and Burkina Faso have already made several changes to street and monument names in the last two years. In October, Niger renamed several historic sites in its capital Niamey which previously bore references to old colonial master France. CP MM AUWAL APPEAL FOR CALM AS THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE GRUESOME MURDER OF SAMAILA GAINA COMMENCES IN EARNEST


Bauchi State – The Bauchi State Police Command is committed to maintaining the safety of our communities and is actively addressing recent criminal incidents. On 14 December 2024, at about 0310 hours, the command received an emergency call from Alhaji Samaila Gaina, a 75-year-old resident of Gaina Village, reporting an armed robbery and tragic shooting at his home.


At around 0250 hours, four unidentified armed assailants broke into his residence, resulting in the unfortunate loss of Alhaji Mohammed Samaila, aged 57, who was fatally injured during the incident. The assailants fled with an undisclosed amount of money. The victim was transported to the Federal Medical Center in Misau, where he was pronounced dead.


In response to this serious incident, the Bauchi State Police Command immediately dispatched a team of homicide detectives to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. Our dedicated investigators are focused on identifying and apprehending those responsible for this heinous act, and we are committed to ensuring justice for the victim and his family.


CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, the Commissioner of Police for the Bauchi State Command, has expressed deep condolences for the loss suffered by the family and condemned this act of violence. He reassures the public that the Command is fully invested in enhancing community safety and encourages anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward and assist with the investigation. Together, we can work towards a safer environment for all citizens.
