 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.  EFCC Commences Investigation of Suspected Oil Thief, Barge and Two Trucks


Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  have commenced investigations of a suspected oil thief, two trucks and a barge handed over to the Commission by the 

Nigerian Navy,  NNS Delta on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. 


Lt. Cdr E.O. Adeola, who represented the Commander NNS Delta at the handing over in Warri stated that Barge Oghenekome, two trucks laden with unspecified quantity of products suspected to be crude oil and one suspect (Samson Uki ) were intercepted by men of NNS Delta at NIWA jetty while discharging products from the barge into the trucks. According to him,  preliminary investigation showed they were operating without a requisite licence. 


Receiving the suspect, the barge and two trucks on behalf of the Commission, Usman Abdullahi Nuhu, an Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, said the Commission will carry out further investigation and possible prosecution of the case.
