 Mali renames colonial French street names Mali followed Burkina Faso and Niger on Wednesday in renaming streets and squares in its capital to get rid of their French colonial names, AFP reported. Streets bearing the names of members of France's colonial administration have been rebaptised in Bamako, according to a decree by the junta chief. Cedeao Avenue (the French acronym for the Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS) is also now named after a new strategic confederation that Mali has formed with Burkina Faso and Niger – the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). In all, nearly 25 names have been replaced, among them boulevards, streets, squares and public establishments. Niger and Burkina Faso have already made several changes to street and monument names in the last two years. In October, Niger renamed several historic sites in its capital Niamey which previously bore references to old colonial master France.  Kaduna Governor Uba Sani Proposes N790bn 2025 Budget, with Education Leading Priority Areas


Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has presented a proposed N790 billion budget for 2025, focusing on infrastructure, human capital development, security, and agriculture. The budget is divided into N553 billion for capital expenditure and N237 billion for recurrent costs, reflecting a strategic approach amid financial challenges. Education receives the largest allocation of N206.6 billion (26.14%), earmarked for new schools, teacher recruitment, and learning materials.


Other sectors include Health (N127 billion or 16.07%), Infrastructure (N106 billion or 13.14%), and Agriculture (N74 billion or 9.36%). Security is allocated N11.2 billion to enhance state security efforts. Social welfare programs will receive N9.8 billion to support vulnerable groups.


Governor Sani outlined the budget as part of a broader commitment to drive inclusive growth, improve infrastructure, and create jobs. He thanked stakeholders for their support and called for legislative backing to ensure the budget’s successful implementation. The 2025 budget is expected to play a key role in transforming Kaduna into a more prosperous and equitable state.
