The First Family of Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday, hosted an array of dignitaries, including top government officials, religious leaders and political associates, among others, at the Lagos House Open Space, Marina, for the 2024 edition of the annual Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons.

This year’s Carol, themed: "Unto Us A Child Is Born" from the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 9, Verse 6 celebrated the spirit of Christmas with heartfelt reflections, melodious hymns, and a call for unity.

Among the esteemed attendees were the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, his wife, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Abimbola Sahu-Hundeyin, religious leaders and various traditional rulers.

Governor Sanwo-Olu delivered the 9th Reading, titled: "The Word Was Made Flesh", drawn from John 1:1-14, while his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, took the 8th Reading from Ephesians 2:13-18, with the theme: "Christ Our Peace."

The various Bible Readings were complemented by several choral hymns and captivating song ministrations, fostering a deeply spiritual and reflective atmosphere.

Special ministrations by gospel artists Bukola Bekes and Bidemi Olaoba added a celebratory energy to the event with their uplifting renditions, inspiring the audience to join in joyful praises and dance.

The harmonious blend of worship, songs, and reflection underscored the essence of Christmas as a season of gratitude, love, and shared humanity.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, emphasised the importance of using the festive season to reflect on shared values and humanity, describing the Carol as a time to foster unity, peace, and goodwill.

The Commissioner further stated that the annual Christmas Carol not only serves as a celebration of the birth of Christ but also as an avenue to promote togetherness among Lagosians.

Layode encouraged residents to embrace the teachings of Christ during the season by fostering love, tolerance, and compassion within their communities.

He commended the Ministry of Home Affairs' team for their dedication and tireless efforts in delivering a remarkable and memorable event, assuring Lagosians of more impactful initiatives in the years to come.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Adewunmi Ogunsanya, expressed his gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his exceptional support, which ensured the successful hosting of the event.

He also extended his appreciation to the First Lady for her constant motherly guidance and moral support, particularly in the planning and execution of the Carol Service.

He lauded the First Family for their unwavering commitment to sustaining the event as a cornerstone of Lagos State’s yuletide celebrations.

Ogunsanya noted that the event reflects the government’s commitment to preserving cultural and religious harmony in the state.

Other special performances include renditions by choristers of various Christian denominations, presentations by students of the Atunda-Olu for children with special needs, and LASTMA Band.
