 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  LASG ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC DIVERSION ON MARINE BRIDGE FOR EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE WORK


The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversion on Marine Bridge for repair work from Wednesday, 4th December, 2024 to Tuesday, 25th February, 2025.


During the repair works, Motorists are enjoined to use alternative routes as follows:


1.      Motorists from Apapa inward Lagos Island are advised to go through Costain Roundabout to link Eko Bridge and connect Lagos Island for their desired destinations.


Or


From Apapa, Motorists may link Ijora 7up through Marine Bridge to access the ramp to connect Ijora Causeway Access Road through Ijora Oloye to Ijora Causeway to link Eko Bridge to connect Lagos Island for their desired destinations.


2.      Motorists from Apapa inward Ijora Causeway/Iddo are advised to link Costain Roundabout to access Eko Bridge and connect Ijora Causeway to access the ramp through the U-turn to link Iddo for their desired destinations.


Or


From Apapa, Motorists can also link Ijora 7up through Marine Bridge to access the ramp to link Ijora Causeway Access Road through Ijora Oloye to connect Ijora Causeway to Iddo for their desired destinations.


For this period, Motorists on the other side from Costain Roundabout will have through traffic inbound Apapa.


ADVISORY: - Motorists are implored to be patient as the diversion is part of the traffic management plans for the rehabilitation works on the asphalt pavement of the road section by the Federal Ministry of Works (Office of the Federal Controller, Lagos).
