 Mirra Andreeva wins French Open at 19, becomes youngest women’s champion since Monica Seles   Russian tennis star Mirra Andreeva completed a breakout run at the French Open on Saturday, defeating Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 to capture her first Grand Slam title at age 19. Andreeva, who was already regarded as a prodigy after emerging on the WTA Tour as a teenager, became the youngest women’s singles champion since Monica Seles, who was 18 when she won her third straight French Open in 1992.  Multiple Children Feared Dead in Ibadan Carnival Stampede


A stampede at a carnival in Ibadan, Oyo State, has reportedly claimed the lives of many children. The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Bashorun area of Ibadan.


While the exact number of casualties has not been confirmed, it is known that several victims were rushed to hospitals across the Ibadan metropolis.


The carnival, scheduled for Wednesday, saw many parents bring their children to the venue on Tuesday, with others arriving in the early hours of Wednesday. The rush to enter the event space led to a stampede, resulting in multiple fatalities, with many children feared dead.


Efforts by DAILY POST to get a statement from the Oyo State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful. However, the Oyo State Government has confirmed the tragedy.


Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, confirmed the incident, stating that a private children’s fun fair at Basorun Islamic High School led to the stampede, which resulted in several deaths and injuries. He assured that a rapid response team was mobilized and victims were swiftly transported to various hospitals for medical care.
