 IGP DECLARES OPEN 2025 NIGERIA POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICERS’ CONFERENCE …Tasks PPROs on strategic communication, combating misinformation The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Monday, December 8, 2025, declared open the 2025 Annual Conference of Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) of the Nigeria Police Force, held at the Police Resource Centre, Abuja. In his keynote address, the IGP described the annual conference as “a strategic national engagement and a critical platform for strengthening police-public communication, shaping national narratives constructively, and deepening trust between the Police and citizens.” He emphasised that modern-day policing is increasingly defined by public trust, transparency, and the quality of communication between law enforcement agencies and the public, noting that the Public Relations Officers remain central to institutional credibility.  Multiple Children Feared Dead in Ibadan Carnival Stampede


A stampede at a carnival in Ibadan, Oyo State, has reportedly claimed the lives of many children. The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Bashorun area of Ibadan.


While the exact number of casualties has not been confirmed, it is known that several victims were rushed to hospitals across the Ibadan metropolis.


The carnival, scheduled for Wednesday, saw many parents bring their children to the venue on Tuesday, with others arriving in the early hours of Wednesday. The rush to enter the event space led to a stampede, resulting in multiple fatalities, with many children feared dead.


Efforts by DAILY POST to get a statement from the Oyo State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful. However, the Oyo State Government has confirmed the tragedy.


Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, confirmed the incident, stating that a private children’s fun fair at Basorun Islamic High School led to the stampede, which resulted in several deaths and injuries. He assured that a rapid response team was mobilized and victims were swiftly transported to various hospitals for medical care.
