MALI RENAMES COLONIAL FRENCH STREET NAMES. (PHOTO).

 Mali renames colonial French street names Mali followed Burkina Faso and Niger on Wednesday in renaming streets and squares in its capital to get rid of their French colonial names, AFP reported. Streets bearing the names of members of France's colonial administration have been rebaptised in Bamako, according to a decree by the junta chief. Cedeao Avenue (the French acronym for the Economic Community of West African States or ECOWAS) is also now named after a new strategic confederation that Mali has formed with Burkina Faso and Niger – the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). In all, nearly 25 names have been replaced, among them boulevards, streets, squares and public establishments. Niger and Burkina Faso have already made several changes to street and monument names in the last two years. In October, Niger renamed several historic sites in its capital Niamey which previously bore references to old colonial master France. NPF SETS TO HOLD 2024 ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CAROL, SERVICE OF SONGS


The Nigeria Police Force is pleased to announce its 2024 annual Christmas Carol and Service of Songs Programme, scheduled to hold by 5pm on Friday, December 20, 2024, at the NPF Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja.


This year’s carol promises to be a spiritually uplifting and memorable occasion as we usher in the festive season with hymns, prayers, and thanksgiving. The programme reflects the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to foster peace, unity, and community spirit among officers, their families, and the general public.


The Nigeria Police will be deeply honoured to have the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as the Mother of the day for this auspicious event to promote national harmony and spiritual reflection.


In addition, the dignitaries who will grace the occasion include the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, OFR, alongside other distinguished dignitaries. The event will also feature a special ministration by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, whose message of hope and faith is expected to inspire all attendees.


The programme will include renditions of carols by the Nigeria Police Choir, scripture readings, and goodwill messages.
