Trump issues pardon to former Republican congressman Stephen Buyer after insider trading conviction    President Donald Trump has issued a full pardon to former Republican congressman Stephen Buyer, who served nearly two years in prison after being convicted of insider trading tied to post-congressional consulting work. Buyer was sentenced in 2023 to 22 months in prison for illegal stock trades made while working as a consultant and lobbyist. He was ordered to forfeit more than $350,000 in ill-gotten gains and pay a $10,000 fine. He was released from custody in 2025 after his conviction was upheld, with the Supreme Court declining to take up his appeal earlier this year.  Onitsha North Mayor Appoints 11 New Aides

In a strategic move to enhance service delivery and drive development in Onitsha North Local Government Area, the Mayor Mr. Nweze Tony Nwora has announced the appointment of 11 new officials to key positions.


The appointments, which cut across various sectors, were aimed at strengthening the local government's capacity to deliver effective services to the people. Those appointed included; seasoned professionals and grassroots mobilisers, who are expected to bring their expertise and experience to bear in their respective roles.


The new appointees were;Akunne Oseloka Megafu as Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism, Anyaokei Chinedu Victor as Personal Assistant on Publicity, and Chukwuemeka Ifeoma as Personal Assistant on Women Mobilisation.


 Others were;  Mrs. Aniobodo Josephine, Mrs. Akubudo Vivian, Lady Nnabuife Nkiru, Amaka Chinedu, and Abadom Nwannonaku Uju, were appointed as Personal Assistants on Women Mobilisation. Additionally, Odi Ilukwe and Mr. Ibeakaeze Tochukwu will serve as Community Liaison Officers, while Nwanyikaibeya C. Obi was appointed as Coordinator of Native Markets.


Mayor Nwora charged the new appointees to work tirelessly to deliver on the administration's promise of improved service delivery and development. He expressed confidence that their combined expertise and experience would help drive growth and transformation in Onitsha North LGA.


On behalf of the appointees, Mr. Ibeakeze Tochukwu, thanked the Mayor for the opportunity and trust he gave to them , and promised that they will work diligently to help him achieve a great success in the area.
