 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.  Onitsha North Mayor Appoints 11 New Aides

In a strategic move to enhance service delivery and drive development in Onitsha North Local Government Area, the Mayor Mr. Nweze Tony Nwora has announced the appointment of 11 new officials to key positions.


The appointments, which cut across various sectors, were aimed at strengthening the local government's capacity to deliver effective services to the people. Those appointed included; seasoned professionals and grassroots mobilisers, who are expected to bring their expertise and experience to bear in their respective roles.


The new appointees were;Akunne Oseloka Megafu as Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism, Anyaokei Chinedu Victor as Personal Assistant on Publicity, and Chukwuemeka Ifeoma as Personal Assistant on Women Mobilisation.


 Others were;  Mrs. Aniobodo Josephine, Mrs. Akubudo Vivian, Lady Nnabuife Nkiru, Amaka Chinedu, and Abadom Nwannonaku Uju, were appointed as Personal Assistants on Women Mobilisation. Additionally, Odi Ilukwe and Mr. Ibeakaeze Tochukwu will serve as Community Liaison Officers, while Nwanyikaibeya C. Obi was appointed as Coordinator of Native Markets.


Mayor Nwora charged the new appointees to work tirelessly to deliver on the administration's promise of improved service delivery and development. He expressed confidence that their combined expertise and experience would help drive growth and transformation in Onitsha North LGA.


On behalf of the appointees, Mr. Ibeakeze Tochukwu, thanked the Mayor for the opportunity and trust he gave to them , and promised that they will work diligently to help him achieve a great success in the area.
