 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms.  Shettima Muhammad Takes Over as Nasarawa Police Commissioner  


Shettima Jauro Muhammad has assumed office as the 29th Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, succeeding AIG Shehu Umar Nadada, who was recently promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police.  


Official Announcement  

The appointment was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel.  


Profile and Experience  

-  Background:

  CP Muhammad hails from Mubi North Local Government Area, Adamawa State, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from the University of Maiduguri.  

-  Police Career:

  Joining the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a Cadet ASP, Muhammad has served in numerous capacities, including:  

  - Acting Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State.  

  - Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State CID in Lafia.  

  - Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Zone 8 Lokoja and Gombe State Command.  


Call for Public Support  

In his inaugural address, CP Muhammad urged Nasarawa residents to support the police by providing actionable intelligence to aid in crime prevention and resolution.  


The new commissioner brings extensive experience and leadership to his role, promising continued efforts to enhance security in the state.
