In an update on the case, a representative of the party seeking to join the proceedings said a new court-appointed officer had been assigned to address their concerns about the proposed DNA test. The representative expressed reservations about the centre expected to handle the process, particularly the role of its director, who he said had also been involved in an earlier DNA-related request. He questioned whether the centre would conduct the test or merely collect samples before sending them to another laboratory. UN Warns of War Crimes as Israeli Attacks on Gaza Hospitals Escalate Humanitarian Crisis


The UN Human Rights Office has condemned Israeli attacks on hospitals in Gaza, warning that they have pushed the healthcare system to the verge of collapse. Between October 2023 and June 2024, 136 strikes hit 27 hospitals and medical facilities, causing significant casualties and infrastructure damage. Israel claims these hospitals were used by Hamas, but the UN finds the evidence vague and unsubstantiated. Such attacks may constitute war crimes under international law, which protects medical facilities during conflict.


The report stresses that attacks on hospitals, civilian populations, or disproportionate strikes could violate humanitarian law, and in some cases, deliberate destruction of healthcare facilities might amount to collective punishment. Despite Israel’s assertion that it follows international law, the bombardment of medical centers in Gaza has exacerbated the dire humanitarian crisis and undermined protections for civilians.
