Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. UN Warns of War Crimes as Israeli Attacks on Gaza Hospitals Escalate Humanitarian Crisis

The UN Human Rights Office has condemned Israeli attacks on hospitals in Gaza, warning that they have pushed the healthcare system to the verge of collapse. Between October 2023 and June 2024, 136 strikes hit 27 hospitals and medical facilities, causing significant casualties and infrastructure damage. Israel claims these hospitals were used by Hamas, but the UN finds the evidence vague and unsubstantiated. Such attacks may constitute war crimes under international law, which protects medical facilities during conflict.

The report stresses that attacks on hospitals, civilian populations, or disproportionate strikes could violate humanitarian law, and in some cases, deliberate destruction of healthcare facilities might amount to collective punishment. Despite Israel’s assertion that it follows international law, the bombardment of medical centers in Gaza has exacerbated the dire humanitarian crisis and undermined protections for civilians.
