 Somali World Cup Referee Denied Entry to United States Award-winning Somali referee, Omar Artan, has been denied entry into the United States despite holding a valid visa, according to a senior official in Somalia’s sports ministry. Artan, who is set to become the first Somali referee to officiate at the FIFA World Cup finals, was stopped at Miami International Airport and subsequently returned to Istanbul, where he had been residing. The reason for the denial was not immediately disclosed. However, Somalia is among the countries affected by a travel ban introduced by the administration of Donald Trump. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., extends heartfelt greetings and warm wishes to all citizens celebrating this joyful time of the year on behalf of all officers of the Nigeria Police Force. In this delightful moment to come together with family and friends, to share in love, peace, and the spirit of giving, the NPF wishes everyone safe, joyous, and memorable festivities.


As we commemorate the festive season, it is also vital to prioritize the safety and well-being of all. Therefore, the Force once again reiterates its commitment to ensuring that our communities across the country remain safe as the festivities unfold.


To this effect, the Inspector-General of Police has ordered Police Operatives to remain on heightened alert during the holiday period. Comprehensive safety measures are being implemented, and patrols will be intensified in areas of festive events and gatherings.


The Nigeria Police Force urges citizens to remain vigilant and practice safety precautions.
