 Germany and Austria to tap oil reserves after 400 million barrels requested  Germany and Austria announced they are releasing portions of their oil reserves in response to an International Energy Agency request for member nations to collectively release 400 million barrels to help ease rising energy prices linked to the Iran conflict. Japan also said it will begin releasing part of its reserves starting Monday. The move marks one of the largest coordinated releases of emergency oil stocks in history. The previous record came in 2022, when IEA members released 182.7 million barrels following the energy disruptions caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Member countries currently hold over 1.2 billion barrels of public emergency oil stocks, along with an additional 600 million barrels of industry stocks maintained under government requirements.  40 Professors Vie for UNN Vice-Chancellor Position


A total of 40 professors are in the race to become the next Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).


Among the contenders are Professor Malachy Okwueze, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the university and ex-Deputy Chief of Staff to a former Enugu State governor.


Other prominent candidates include current Deputy Vice-Chancellors of UNN, Professor Romanus Ezeokonkwo (a former Supervising Vice-Chancellor) and Professor Daniel Nwachukwu (Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UNN's Enugu Campus, UNEC).


Additionally, Prof. Paulinus Ugwuoke, Chairman of the Nsukka Professors Association; Prof. Jerry Ugwuanyi; and Prof. Obinna Onwujekwe are also in contention, among others.


A university insider revealed on Friday that the Governing Council has reduced the number of candidates to 26.


This follows the expiration of Professor Charles Igwe's tenure as Vice-Chancellor, with Professor Polycarp Chigbu currently serving in an acting capacity.
