 Transfer: Portuguese side signs 19-year-old Nigerian-born footballer Yaqub Usman-Malah. Brito Sporting Club of Portugal has signed an official contract with a United Kingdom-based Nigerian youngster, Yaqub Usman-Malah. The official unveiling of the youngster took place on Saturday, January 4, 2025. Yaqub, born in Nigeria in 2006, is a budding Nigerian talent. Before his official contract with Brito Sporting Club of Portugal, he was a student and trainee player at Brooke College Football Academy in the United Kingdom. At Brooke College Football Academy, Yaqub achieved an impressive record, scoring 17 goals in 32 matches with no injuries over 116 training days, amounting to 2,270 minutes of on-field action. Tomasz Wasylik, the lead coach of the Under-17B team that Yaqub played with, clearly testified to his outstanding performance at the academy. A 75-YEAR-OLD ARIZONA WOMAN ESCAPES HER KIDNAPPER AFTER BEING HELD AGAINST HER WILL FOR HOURS, ONLY TO DISCOVER HE HAD TAKEN HER BOYFRIEND'S LIFE. (PHOTO).

 Wow. A 75-year-old year old Arizona woman escapes her kidnapper after being held against her will for hours, only to discover he had taken her boyfriend's life.


This startling tale began at around 3 p.m. on January 3rd  in Pierce, Arizona. A masked man forced his way into the victim's home. The man, later identified as 37-year-old Rynn Prairie-Rocca, blindfolded the 75-year-old woman and put her in the backseat of a car. 


While in the backseat the woman heard several loud noises, but she was unable to tell what exactly was happening.  A short while later the woman was moved to the backseat of her own vehicle and was taken off the premises.


The incredible brave 75-year-old victim was able to escape from her restraints and run away from her kidnapper while stopped at a Dollar General store. She then ran to a nearby residence and called 911 to report she had been kidnapped. 


The 911 went through to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office at 8:10 p.m. As the woman was being taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital she informed deputies that her boyfriend should still be in the home. She asked them "if they could please let him know she was being taken to the hospital". 


Deputies responded to the home and sadly found her boyfriend deceased. He was 67 at the time of his homicide. 


Police quickly identified Prairie-Rocca as a suspect in the kidnapping and murder. After locating Prairie-Rocca in a Cochise County home, a tense 90 minute stand off occurred. 


Prairie-Rocca eventually surrendered without incident and was booked into Cochise County Jail. The names of the victims have not been released.


Our thoughts are with the victim in this case and her boyfriend's family.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
