 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity. Anambra Assembly Speaker Udeze Felicitates With Chief Anyaoku On His 92nd Birthday

The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze has described former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku as a revered diplomat whose service at the Commonwealth fetched Nigeria high regard and recognition among other African countries.


Felicitating Chief Anyaoku on his 92nd birthday, Udeze noted that Chief Anyaoku discharged his duties at the Commonwealth of Nations creditably and was recognized by various organs of the International Community.


The Speaker extolled the advisory roles being played by Chief Anyaoku in Nigeria and Anambra State in particular where he has continued to use his wealth of experience to advance good governance.


He noted that Chief Anyaoku's contributions to the growth and development of the Church of God and his community, Obosi are legendary, adding that even his foreign assignments and engagements could not prevent him from participating in the local Obosi customs and traditions, hence his recognition by the entire Idemili people as "Ugwumba Idemili".


Right Honourable Udeze while praying God to continue to strengthen Chief Anyaoku and give him longevity, enjoined the citizenry to emulate Chief Anyaoku's outstanding personality by striving to make a good name in their various endeavours.
