Mozambique opposition leader returns after fleeing on post-election safety fears Mozambique opposition leader Venancio Mondlane returned home on Thursday, after fleeing in the days following a hotly contested October election that sparked demonstrations in which scores of protesters have been killed, Reuters reported. Mondlane says the Oct. 9 poll was rigged and has called on his supporters to take to the streets across the southern African nation of 35 million. A heavy riot police presence was felt in the areas surrounding capital Maputo's international airport where thousands gathered to welcome Mondlane. A Reuters witness said tear gas was fired on crowds in the area and snipers were positioned on buildings around the air base. The Anambra State Government has commissioned the newly built, equipped Primary Healthcare Centre wards in Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area.

The Enugwu-Agidi Progressive Union, United States of America, (EPU-USA), handed over the built and furnished new ward, as well as completed doctors' quarters at the Health Centre to Anambra State Government.

The group also renovated three existing buildings in the hospital.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike commended the group for keying into the Public Private Community Partnership, (PPCP) initiative of the Gov. Chukwuma Soludo's administration.

Dr. Obidike urged other Communities to emulate them, as the state government can not develop the state alone.

The Commissioner said the hospital will be linked to State telemedicine for optimal service delivery to the people.

He assured them that he would continue his monitoring so as to ensure health workers do not fail the people who would want to access care in the hospital.

"Soon 5KVA solar power system will be installed here so as to complement the efforts of the Community.''

Dr. Obidike represented Giv. Soludo during the event.

Earlier, the President General of Enugwu-Agidi Progressive Union USA, Chief Sunny Okoye said they decided to embark on the project because of the need for improved healthcare services in the community and appealed to the state government to address some issues that are still facing the hospital such as staffing, electricity supply and major equipment for quality healthcare delivery.

Some members of the group, Dr. Christian Nwankwo and Chief John-Chris Okoye expressed happiness on their achievements for their town and promised to keep supporting EPU USA leadership for more development in Enugwu-Agidi.

The Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, Igwe Michael Okeke-Uche, the immediate past Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka Council Area, Mr. Clement Aguiyi, and an illustrious son of the town, Prof. Emeka Nwankwo thanked the group for remembering their community and tackling one of the major challenges facing the community, encouraging other groups to borrow a leaf from them for a better Enugwu-Agidi.
