 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence.  BOARD GAMES: LASUBEB PARTNERS NATIONAL SCHOOL SPORT FEDERATION 


The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) on Wednesday, played host to the President of the National School Sport Federation, Mrs. Olabisi Joseph who was on a collaborative visit to the Board to discuss preparations for the upcoming National School Board Games particularly chess games scheduled for all schools in the Federation.


The visit aimed to strengthen cooperation between LASUBEB and the National School Sport Federation in promoting sports development at the grassroots level.


Mrs. Olabisi Joseph emphasised the importance of engaging young learners in sports, highlighting that such activities not only improve their physical and mental health but also foster values such as teamwork, discipline, and leadership.


“We are excited to collaborate with the Board in organising this year's National School Board Games. The competition provides an excellent platform for pupils to showcase their talents, develop essential life skills, and represent their states in future sporting events,” Mrs. Joseph stated during the meeting.


The Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, had earlier warmly welcomed Mrs Joseph and her team, and expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. He emphasised that sports play a crucial role in the holistic development of pupils, adding that the Board has been committed to promoting sports alongside academics in public primary schools.


“We recognise that fostering a balance between intellectual and physical growth is essential for shaping well-rounded individuals. This collaboration with the National School Sport Federation will further strengthen our efforts in providing opportunities for our pupils to excel not just academically but also in sports,” Dr. Shittu said.


He assured Mrs. Joseph that LASUBEB would provide full support for the event, including ensuring that schools have access to the necessary sports facilities and resources.
